Choral Remembrance Service including Fauré's Requiem
Sunday 27 September
6.30pm

The centrepiece of the Remembrance Sunday evening service, led by Trinity Festival Choir, will be a performance of Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Requiem.

This masterpiece of the choral repertory is probably the most widely loved setting of the words of the Requiem Mass. In comparison with the large-scale masterpieces of Verdi, Brahms and Berlioz, Faure’s setting is gentle and unassuming, yet it is this very quality of understatement which contributes so eloquently to the work’s universal appeal. It is indeed difficult not to be moved by the ethereal beauty of the piece, perhaps most especially voiced in the plangent soprano solo of the Pie Jesu.

A broad mix of other choral music, readings and poetry from across the ages will add emotional resonance and powerful expression to the evening, and you are very warmly invited to attend what promises to be a very moving service.
